airbnb back next year…

When your kids live a day trip away and you want to gather for the holidays there’s only one thing to  do…FIND A HALFY AND MEET UP!

family 3

Okay. Let’s see…we need a room for Paige and Jag and the babies…one for myself and Kurt…and another for Laken and Hannah. Check for hotels. Three rooms, two nights, way too much money and too much division! We want to be together! Forget that…we shall Airbnb ! Have you tried this yet?! How was your experience?! Ours was perfection! So long hotels and Hello Cozy…Let me tell you about it…

We decided Granbury would be the designated meeting place and after searching on the Airbnb site we all agreed upon a darling lake house that looked like it would accommodate our wishes. I put in a request for The Kemp Family Lake House and immediately heard back from the owner with acceptance for our stay! Sight unseen we trusted the positive reviews from prior guests and booked our stay.

Laken arrived first and sent a text that read: THIS PLACE IS SO CUTE. And it was. Kristi decorated with such charm and detail and even had a Christmas tree up!  This was just one of the extra touches she extended to create the perfect setting for our Thanksgiving/Christmas Combo Gathering.

Everything was so clean and we loved the open floor plan allowing us to all be together while we slaved over the turkey….burgers.

We began the morning with a simple breakfast. No fuss is my middle name.

Fresh muffins, croissants and cinnamon rolls from the bakery along with some seasonal fruit is all you need to please a crowd that wants to stay in their jammies until noon.

Only a few minutes from my beloved HEB, we did some grocery shopping and all agreed to KISS. Keep It Super Simple. Speaking of kissing…God kissed us with the weather so we sat outside to dine for our late Thanksgiving lunch…If you’re looking for anything dramatic, overstated, fussy or impressive….look away. This matriarch was more interested in laughter, conversation and peace than pieces of fine china and cooking a bird for 24 hours….Hannah made it more than enough with her recent love of calligraphy.

This was our third annual year to feast on turkey burgers and sweet potato fries. My turkey burger recipe is a crowd pleaser and my thumbs are tired of texting it so here it is:

Ice Cream Party (1)

Speaking of recipes…We all arrive on Wednesday and decide to head into town to dine. Hannah suggests we eat at Babe’s Chicken …she earned her place as the official night before Thanksgiving Dinner Picker Person. Pluck my feathers and call me country! That was THE BEST FOOD EVER. I was like, forget the turkey burgers, let’s get platters of this deliciousness to go and call it good! If you are within two hours of a location, GO. Love everything about it.  The roasted chicken is sunshine and happiness. The rolls are worth all the extra miles we said we would walk when we grabbed another one. The salad was so good even Karnivore Kurt ate it…I googled the dressing and cannot believe how something so easy could taste so good…here ya go!…even though I’m convinced there is a little something-something in there that all cooks have taken devout oaths not to reveal…

If headed to Dallas, sidestep to Granbury for a stay. Downtown is every bit of enchanting and next year we want to arrive earlier and stay a day later so we can do some sightseeing and of course…shopping!

Are you ready to getaway?!

Check out the Airbnb website and plan your next vacation or even a local staycation. Just like anything, use your wisdom.

  • Create an account
  • Search for rentals within your area of choice
  • Check the reviews of previous guests
  • Google map the address and check out the location/neighborhood.
  • Is it kid friendly? Pet friendly?
  • If all looks good, contact the host and request a stay
  • Keep communication friendly and be gracious
  • Respect the property of your host
  • Write a review of your stay

Kurt and I are planning to offer some rooms by next year for the LSU football season. I love the idea of making someone feel comfortable, welcome and happy for having been there…Thank you Kemp Family for providing a place for us to make sweet memories. We hope to be back next year!
